📢 HR will have IT lock your computer during the layoff call, so some things need to be done well ahead of time on the off chance that this ever happens to you.

- [ ] Maintain a copy of any personal content that may be in your drive or wiki.
- [ ] Build an emergency savings account with the amount of six months expenses.
Immediately After HR Call
- [ ] ⭐ Negotiate severance!
- [ ] Halt 401k payments so that the final check will not have it deducted.
- [ ] File unemployment, the sooner the better.
- [ ] If insurance is through employer, request paperwork for COBRA.
- [ ] Compare COBRA to healthcare.gov plans, apply for the best option.
- [ ] Create or update a budget to track bills.
- [ ] Pay as many bills as possible with severance.
- [ ] Check terms on 401k to see if employer account has fees, rollover to IRA if so.
- [ ] Establish any references from this previous role.
- [ ] Make LinkedIn post about being laid off, could result in network opportunities.
- [ ] If needed, invest in clothes for interviewing.
- [ ] Interview and apply.
